The Toyota Prius is a true monument in the history of the automotive industry. It was the first hybrid car to break into the market, which makes it the mother of all hybrid vehicles as we know them today.

Unsurprisingly, the Prius returns for 2026 with a few minor updates.

A Slight Price Increase and a New Version

It will be available in two trims: the XLE, which serves as the entry-level model, starting at $38,365 before destination and handling fees. Then there's the Limited trim at the top of the range with a starting price of $44,480.

Meanwhile, the plug-in hybrid version offers four options, starting with the SE trim at $40,050. Next comes the XSE version and the special Nightshade Edition, which is based on the XSE, starting at $45,680. Finally, there's the XSE Premium version starting at $48,535.

The Nightshade Edition receives several small upgrades, including replacing chrome elements and other parts with a black finish, such as the door handles. On top of that, it comes with stylish 19-inch wheels. Inside, the design is completed with a black finish and dark gray stitching. Additionally, the Toyota logos are painted black.

No Mechanical Changes

For 2026, the Toyota Prius essentially retains the same mechanical setup. The hybrid version is equipped with a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine paired with two electric motors, providing standard all-wheel drive. This setup delivers a combined output of 195 horsepower. However, the most impressive aspect remains its fuel economy, averaging just 4.8 L/100 km.

As for the plug-in hybrid version, it uses the same gasoline engine but combines it with only one electric motor. Nevertheless, total output rises to 220 horsepower. It is also equipped with a 13.6 kWh battery pack, allowing it to store enough energy to travel up to 72 kilometers in fully electric mode.
